Biography: Carlos Restrepo is a Ph.D. candidate at NYU's Wagner School of Public Service. His dissertation topic is the association between asthma and air pollution in New York City. He is a research assistant at ICIS and is currently project manager for the ICIS component of the South Bronx Environmental Studies project. This is a joint project between ICIS, NYU's Nelson Institute of Environmental Medicine, and four South Bronx community groups: Nos Quedamos, the Sports Foundation, The Point Community Development Corporation, and Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice. The main goal of the ICIS component of the project is to examine transportation and waste management activities in the South Bronx and to relate them to environmental quality and public health issues. Prior to joining ICIS Carlos participated as a research assistant in a National Science Foundation-funded research project related to performance measures and infrastructure. Before coming to NYU, Carlos worked for three years in El Salvador, where he is originally from, as a policy analyst for FUSADES, a non-profit organization. He holds a B.S. degree in Engineering Physics from Lehigh University, and a M.S. degree in International Development from the University of Pennsylvania.
