Biography: Dennis H. Ross, Dennis H. Ross, P.E. is Director of Professional Development at the American Public Works Association (APWA) in Kansas City, Missouri. Dennis joined APWA in May 1996 after a successful career in both the public and private sectors. He has held senior level management positions in public works departments in California, Oregon and Washington. He has also been a partner in a management consulting firm serving public agency clients on the West Coast, and the engineering manager for an urban design and landscape architecture firm. Dennis has a bachelor’s degree from Portland State University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Redlands. He is a registered professional engineer in three states and is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. He was responsible for developing the Professional Certificate in Public Works Management at the University of California, where he also developed and taught core courses. Dennis' role at APWA headquarters includes management of the Professional Development Department, administration of the Self Assessment and Accreditation programs, and oversight of asset management programs. His staff is responsible for identifying the professional development and continuing education needs for public works professionals. The Professional Development Department provides support for APWA’s Professional/ Educational/ Technical Committees and various task forces. His awards and honors include: the Donald C. Stone Award for Educational Excellence from APWA National Gordon Atkins Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Redlands and has been elected to the Portland State University School of Engineering and Applied Science, Academy of Distinguished Alumni.
