Information Exchange: Publications

ICIS conducted four focus groups in the fall of 1999: two in Massachusetts and two in California. The focus groups served as a pre-test to get feedback from users on how they assess the performance of four infrastructure systems: transportation (high-way and transit), water supply, waste water, and power supply. The research team hoped that participants would provide insight on their priorities and concerns regarding important aspects of these infrastructure systems and services on the types of information they need and want in order to assess performance and quality. The results are to be used both within ICIS’s performance assessment program and other related program areas. They also are to be shared more widely with the community of interests concerned with infrastructure performance and user and community satisfaction.

The report includes these major sections: a discussion of planning and recruitment efforts; reports on the Massachusetts and California focus groups; and observations, lessons, and potential next steps.
